Photography

While I don't consider myself a professional photographer by any means, I've been fortunate enough to capture some extraordinary moments during my travels, and I'd like to share a few of my favorites. Armed with my trusty Canon A-1 Black, I remain devoted to using film, particularly Kodak Portra 400 Professional fine grain 35mm film. My choice of FD lenses, ranging from the 300mm to the 50mm, depends on the specific shot I aim to capture. These photos have been taken in diverse locations, spanning from the solemn U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, to the bustling energy of Piccadilly Circus in London, UK.

The Process

I have a strong affinity for working with film in photography. In my view, film imparts a distinct sense of realism and depth to the subject matter, which I find particularly appealing. This preference aligns with the scientific aspects of film photography, as it involves multiple layers of light, contributing to the unique visual quality. In contrast, digital photography relies on a single layer of pixels. The main drawback to film, however, is its cost, which has been steadily rising. Expenses associated with purchasing film, developing it, and creating digital scans for storage in DVDs or Cloud drives have increased over time. It wasn't until 2021 that I finally made the transition to digital photography.

For the past decade, my photography has predominantly revolved around capturing moments with my children and my dogs. This has encompassed a range of activities, from documenting their soccer, baseball, and basketball games to preserving the memories of our family trips to various destinations. Over this period, I've managed to capture some truly memorable shots of these cherished moments, and I've diligently curated these images on our private family website. While my primary intention has always been to freeze these moments in time, I hold out hope that one day my children will come to appreciate the visual narrative of their lives that I've lovingly compiled.
